Note to parents:
First haircut:
These haircuts typically go pretty smooth. Oftentimes, this process is way better than expected. Its the second and third haircuts that can be a bit challenging. But we tackle that when we get there. Pictures are encouraged before, during and after!
Helpful tips:
Talk about the haircut a few days in advance. This helps prep your kiddo for what’s to come.
Fresh washed hair is best, especially for long hair! Brushing before you come to the salon helps make it less traumatic for your child.
Some children hate wearing the cutting cape. And that is okay! Bring an extra shirt to change into after.
Consider bringing an ipad/tablet, or phone with their favorite songs, or videos.
A favorite snack is also a good distraction.
Avoid holding your child still while getting a haircut, This can cause additional visits to be traumatic,
Sometimes, children do better when they CAN’T see their parents. Sometimes children do better when they CAN see their parents. Each child is different. I am flexible to everyone’s needs.
Inform your stylist of any unique situations that may require adjustments; such as sensory seeking/avoiding, adjustments to lighting, favorite music, and any other important information your stylist should be aware of.
My goal is to make the process successful and positive. Children will have a prize box to choose from, just for coming in!

One more important note:
No need to apologize for your kiddo being a kid. Haircuts can be scary! Kids rarely sit still, and sometimes they cry and scream. I am here to make haircuts less scary and less traumatic for parents and children. Sometimes, we may take a break from the haircut to take a short walk around the building. Sometimes we may take a minute to play with toys. This is not always the case. But in order to provide a safe, comfortable environment, sometimes, we have to let kids be kids and allow them to discover their surroundings. This helps them feel safe, and comfortable, and usually results in a future of smooth haircuts. Children thrive best in safe, comfortable and predictable environments.
